Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2026
1. Who we are
MusicQuizem is a party music quiz application operated as a personal project. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at musicquizem@gmail.com.
2. What data we collect
We collect as little data as possible. Specifically:
- Hosts (sign-in required): When you sign in with Google, we receive a unique identifier for your Google account. We do not store your name, email address, or profile photo.
- Subscription and usage data: To manage your access level, we store whether you have an active subscription, any quiz passes you have purchased, and your daily free-tier usage count.
- Played track history: To avoid repeating songs, we store a list of Spotify track identifiers you have previously played, linked to your account.
- Players (no sign-in required): Players join by entering a name of their choosing. This name is stored temporarily in the active game session and deleted when the game ends. No account is created and no personal data is retained after the game.
3. How we use your data
- Your account identifier is used solely to recognise your hosting account and associate your data with you.
- Subscription and usage data is used only to determine which features you can access.
- Played track history is used only to avoid repeating songs across games you host.
- We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the app.
4. Where data is stored
All data is stored using Google Firebase, hosted in the European Union (europe-west1). This includes:
- Firebase Authentication — manages sign-in via Google
- Firebase Realtime Database — stores live game session data (deleted when the game ends)
- Cloud Firestore — stores your subscription status, usage data, and played track history
Firebase is a Google product and is subject to Google's privacy practices. See Firebase Privacy and Security.
5. Third-party services
MusicQuizem opens tracks in the Spotify app using deep links. We do not connect to the Spotify API, and no data is sent to or received from Spotify by our servers. Your use of Spotify is governed by Spotify's Privacy Policy.
6. Data retention
- Game session data is deleted automatically when the host closes the app.
- Subscription, usage, and played track history data is retained until you request deletion.
- Authentication data is retained until you delete your account.
7. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time
In practice, the only data we hold about you is your account identifier and your played track history. Because we do not store your name or email, we cannot look up your data based on your identity alone — you will need to provide your Google account identifier so we can locate your data. A deletion request will remove it permanently.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at musicquizem@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children's privacy
MusicQuizem is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
